Coated Leather

To us, the words "patent leather" evoke images of 90's thick, stiff, black patent mary janes. Fortunately for us in 2015, patent has evolved to mean a softer, more pliable, textured version of the material.  We're referring to the updated version as "coated leather" to differentiate between the two styles. While the majority of designers showed their styles in a "marsala" or oxblood color, we expect to see the fabrication expand to include a much more varied palette.

Take the Plunge

Time to start hoarding double-sided tape; extreme v's are back!

Strategic Placement

One thing we really love about fashion is when people run with the fun aspect of it. That's why we were delighted to see the Spring 2015 runways full of cheeky placements of patches, pockets, and appliques. It's nice when fashion doesn't take itself too seriously, so while we personally don't have the guts to rock these styles, we give major props to those who do!

Gingham Style

Gingham is one of our personal favorites. From Dorothy and Mary Ann, to Brigitte, some of our favorite ladies have helped to solidify this fabric as a timeless classic. This season, the look is mostly cleaned up, with the best versions coming in fuss-free silhouettes, like the DVF and Oscar de la Renta versions below.

Burlap-Look

This trend is a bit of an odd one. It involves various fabrications and finishes that evoke the feel of burlap. In these instances, the look is accomplished by several means; raw edges, linen fabrics in tan and beige, tweeds and bouclés in low-contrast neutrals, or knits with little or no variation in stitches.

Major Trend Alert: Tent Dresses

A huge trend for Summer 2015 is big, drapey tent dresses. They come in a variety of options; sleeveless, strappy, long sleeves... as well as lengths; above the knee, midi, and maxi... but the rest of the silhouette is virtually identical.

Major Trend Alert: Orange Appeal

Pantone may have declared marsala to be the color of the year, but one quick glance of the runways will tell you otherwise. It's been a while since we've seen a trend so big that nearly every major designer walked a look portraying it, and this year, there's no doubt, orange has stolen marsala's spotlight. From traffic cone to pumpkin, there's a shade for every skin tone -- just take a look:

Leather on Leather (on Leather)

After last year's denim on denim (on denim) trend, it should come as no surprise that the trend of pairing similar or like fabrications would continue. For Fall 2015, this means... leather!

Pump Up the Volume

Volume, bubble-shapes, and cocoon silhouettes are nothing new, but they're becoming more mainstream with companies like Gap and J.Crew offering up basic styles of their own. While the mall brands have picked up on the sweatshirt and coat parts of this trend, the runways continue to evolve the trend by playing more with the proportions of the pieces, as well as adding skirts, pants, and dresses to the mix. Below, our favorite picks from the runways.

Isabel Marant

Jonathan Saunders

Summer 2015 trend prediction: Tie-backs

The mercury just dropped here in NYC and lots of people saw snow last night (!!!) but we're going to go ahead and report on this trend for Summer 2015 anyway!

Tie-back tops are already popping up here and there, and we're predicting the trend will catch on in a big way for SS15.
