Floral Gin Fizz

After trying many violet, chamomile, lavender, and rose drinks at some of our favorite watering holes, we decided it was our turn to play bartender. Loosely based on an aviation, our (as of yet) unnamed but delicious concoction pulls inspiration from this weeks floral trend, botany of desire.

The Drift's Floral Gin Fizz

Ingredients:
1 organically grown pesticide/fungicide-free rose or rose petals (optional, for garnish)
1 hardy squeeze of fresh lemon juice, plus twist of peel for garnish
2 oz gin (we prefer Brooklyn local "Glorious Gin" from Breuckelen Distilling)
1 oz creme de cassis (for that gorgeous color, but may substitute other fruit flavored liquer)
1-2oz seltzer water (we like Perrier's ruby red grapefruit to cut some of the sweetness from the liquer, but plain or any flavor of choice will also work)

Mix the lemon juice, gin, and creme de cassis FIRST, then top off with seltzer, stirring again lightly to mix. Finish with a single petal and twist of lemon peel.

NOTE: If using a rose petal for garnish, it's important to make sure you're using one that was grown chemically free. This is especially important in flowers because different grades of pesticides are used than for produce, and LOTS of them at that (it takes a lot to get those beauties looking beautious!)
