That 70s Show

Among the myriad of trends we saw in the Spring 2014 shows, was an emerging trend of early 70's inspired looks.

This trend isn't particularly huge just yet, but we think it'll pick up a bit once the weather gets warmer.

New Album from Brooklyn's Hospitality

We first heard Brooklyn-based Hospitality last year at the Bowery Ballroom. The crowd there was unusually diverse for the venue and extremely smitten with the trio's warm, heartfelt pop, with a little lo-fi garage thrown in for good measure. Say it's a little of The Decemberists meets the Violent Femmes.

Hospitality obviously won over the hearts of our city, and the critics, with their first LP. Now, with their second full-length album, Trouble, Amber Pampini's soulful, airy voice is accompanied by more comfortable pop, but this time with a little bite.

2014 Brooklyn Trends About to Hit the Rest of the World

Well, they should, because whether or not New York City is the center of the universe, our borough is the brainchild and birthplace of many of the country's trends.

From Swedish clogs making it back into haute fashion, to 90s nostalgia and #longhairdontcare, lets take a look at what was big in 2013 and what The Drift thinks will be the big trends in Brooklyn in 2104.

Black Magic Desert Gypsy
Have you walked down Grand Ave. in Williamsburg recently and seen a girl—or several—looking like a cross between a gypsy and a witch, with some Navajo thrown in for good measure?

There's a reason for that, and dressing like Stevie Nicks is just the tip of the iceberg with this trend. From succulents, to kilim rugs and turquoise jewelry everything, this hybrid of southwest aesthetics and dark magic is now being seen in middle America and West Elm, thanks to Instagram and Pinterest. Get your pentagrams out from middle school and start rocking them again.

Peer Into Our Crystal Ball; Our Top Ten Trend Predictions for 2014

While most people think of the new year as an opportunity to get organized, when it comes to fashion, this idea has flown out the window. This year, the biggest trends are at such extreme ends of the spectrum, we're getting a case of whiplash. We'll get more in depth with each of these trends later on this year, but for now, check out our list of top ten trend predictions (in no particular order) for 2014.

There were so many incredible gowns on tonight's red carpet, that it was tough picking our faves. We ended up picking fifteen looks we felt were either new/fresh ideas OR were such great/flattering choices for the ladies wearing them that they had to be included on the list.

Miami Horror's Newest Video is L.A. Eye Candy

Miami Horror, started by the DJ and producer Benjamin Vanguarde, hasn't released a full album since 2010, so we were pleasantly surprised when we saw the video for Real Slow pop up in our feeds.

The Melbourne, Australia-based artist has worked with a lot of musicians and his disco-happy beats are smooth on the ears and the dance floor.

As New Yorkers, it's hard to imagine a winter spent in anything other than black. Afterall, the slush, dirty snow, cramped subway cars, and other recipes for messes make it hard to maintain anything brighter than charcoal. But when the majority of designers showed colorful outerwear, it was hard to not take notice of what is definitely a major trend.
