Art Deco Decor and an All-American Menu at Alameda in Greenpoint

Oysters and fluke and candlelight, oh my!
If Brooklyn is the center of the New York food scene, Greenpoint is its Mecca. People think Williamsburg is where all the star restaurants are, but people in the know head north to Greenpoint for the 5 star quality without the European tourists.

One of the newest in the neighborhood, Alameda is the brainchild of the brother Haslegrave who also designed DuckDuck, Manhattan Inn and the Mast Brothers Chocolate Shop to name a few.

The Drift went to dinner this week a few days after Alameda opened and had a grand time in this Art Deco-inspired space.

A regular Greenpoint crowd populated the circular bar taking up the majority of the small space at 195 Franklin. Candlelight, cute bartenders, girls with red lipstick and beautiful wood paneling make for good people watching in attractive lighting. The classic rock playing in the background didn't hurt the ambiance either.

All American fare is the bulk of the menu. The raw, salted fluke is a keeper, as well as the Salad Frisée with pork belly. Cocktails matched the decor, classic, semi-precious, with some rock thrown in. Our group ordered manhattans and a Guiness and Prosecco mixed drink and a good time was obviously had by all.

If you are in the area or looking for a good time, good food and eye candy to last the night, visit Alameda in Greenpoint before the word is out and the tourists start flocking down Franklin.
