Who doesn't like free stuff? And outdoor movies that are free are the best! This summer 2013, take some from the city that we all love, but comes with too many taxes and high rents that leave little room for entertainment.

SummerScreen in McCarren Park

Every Wednesday, this urban oasis in the middle of Williamsburg hosts this highly-anticipated event every summer, starting July 10th this year. The park opens at 6 p.m., local bands play at 6:30 p.m. and movies start at sundown. This summer is 90s-tastic, with The Craft, Pee Wee's Big Adventure and Speed. Also The Goonies is playing July 31st, so be prepared to fight us for a prime spot!

Habana Outpost Movie Night

This Ft. Greene summer staple, located at 757 Fulton St., is a one-stop shop for cuban snacks and frozen drinks also offers free movies every Sunday night. From May to October, Habana Outpost will be showing gems like Pulp Fiction, Wayne's World and Do the Right Thing.

Brooklyn Bridge Syfy Movies With a View

Brooklyn Bridge Park, the Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy and the Syfy Channel are teaming up again for the sixth year to offer free movies under the bridge. One of the best views of the city from Brooklyn, the music and food vendors starts at 6 p.m. every other Thursday night, starting July 11th. Roman Holiday and Ferris Bueller's Day Off are some of the must-sees this summer.

HBO Bryant Park Summer Film Festival

One of the biggest free movie events in the city, Bryant Park is the perfect respite from the Midtown hustle and bustle. From June 17 - August 19, movies like Tootsie, The Women and E.T. will be playing to thousands. Get there early for a spot, as the lawn opens at 5 p.m., and be prepared to get cozy with the crowds.

Lavender Lake Free Films

One of our favorite places to eat and drink (can we PLEASE talk about the fried brussels sprouts?), this Gowanus go-to is big on charm, good looking people and a magical backyard. It also is budget friendly, since every Tuesday and Thursday will be hosting double screenings of favorite movies, like JAWS, til the end of summer.

Rooftop Films Summer Series

Some of these screenings from the community organization Rooftop Films require tickets, but many are free and hey, you'll be on a roof! If you are a cinema/film (read: not movie), these events are for you. With screenings of Frances Ha and Central Park Five, and gossip of music, after-parties and surprise Q&A's with some of the actors, this is high-brow meets low-brow and it feels so good!

RiverFlicks at Hudson River Park

Playing the big name movies of the past year, RiverFlicks is specifically for the "gown-ups." A new movie every Wednesday, starting on July 10th, there will be lots of silly drunk grown-ups and FREE POPCORN. The lights will go down around 8:30 p.m. and titles include Silver Linings Playbook and the Avengers.

Celebrate Brooklyn!

We love our home borough and love free movies with live scores even more! BRIC's annual Celebrate Brooklyn! free summer events are back and better than ever. Visit their website for info on free concerts and events all summer long. For movies, there will be free screenings of Dracula on July 13th and Beasts of the Southern Wild on August 8th. But there's more! Both films will feature live scores on New York's biggest screen!

Red Hook Flicks

The super fun nabe of Red Hook gets even better during the summer with outdoor eating right on the water and free movies! Hop on the B61 (Red Hook's bus d'jour) and get to Valentino Pier for $1 gourmet popcorn made by local Home/Made and other delicious eats every Tuesday from July 13-September 14. Movies start around 8:30 p.m.

Narrows Botanical Gardens Movie Night

Perhaps the Bay Ridge location deters the masses from venturing to this pretty spot further south in Brooklyn, but the promise of smaller crowds and beautiful flora and fauna is enough to convince us to travel down this summer for free flicks! Showings start at sundown on select Fridays throughout the summer and include classics like I'm No Angel and The Bride of Frankenstein.
